(Syed Yaseen Hashmi): Sri Lanka has formally requested Pakistan to reconsider its decision to boycott the high-profile match against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. According to foreign media reports, Sri Lanka Cricket has appealed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to review the decision in view of the broader interests of the tournament and the game.
Reports indicate that Sri Lanka Cricket has sent an official letter to the PCB, highlighting that the cancellation of the Pakistan-India match scheduled for February 15 in Colombo would result in significant financial losses. The board warned that non-participation could have long-term consequences, including reduced revenue and a decline in expected tourism income.
In its statement, Sri Lanka Cricket urged the PCB to consider the exceptional circumstances, the long-standing relationship between the two cricket boards, and the overall welfare of international cricket.
This development follows the Government of Pakistan’s decision to prevent the men’s cricket team from playing against India. Earlier this week, Indian media also reported that the International Cricket Council (ICC) was exploring backchannel efforts to persuade Pakistan to reconsider its stance.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to begin on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka, with Pakistan scheduled to play all of its matches in Colombo.
