WASHINGTON: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that both Iran and the United States are interested in reaching an agreement claiming that most key points of a potential deal have already been agreed upon. Speaking to the media in Florida, Trump said that any agreement would require Iran to hand over its enriched uranium to the United States, and that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be an immediate step if a deal is finalized.
Trump claimed that indirect communications had taken place with a high level Iranian figure though he did not reveal the individual’s identity. He also stated that Iran had initiated contact with the U.S. and that recent negotiations over the past few days had been positive showing measurable progress.
He further noted that no final guarantee exists for a deal but emphasized that discussions are moving toward broader regional peace and preventing nuclear weapon development. Trump added that military options remain secondary to diplomacy and declined to comment on strategic deployments of U.S. forces in the region.
According to him ongoing talks reflect a serious effort with both sides engaging in sustained dialogue aimed at reducing tensions and addressing nuclear concerns.
