A Tezgam Express traveling from Peshawar to Karachi derailed near Adam Wahan in Bahawalpur on Tuesday, leaving at least 15 passengers injured and trapped, according to railway officials.
The accident involved seven carriages, with four overturning and two partially derailing. Officials said the derailment began from the fourth carriage behind the engine. Emergency response teams, including rescue workers, ambulances, and heavy machinery, were quickly dispatched to the site.
Injured passengers were provided first aid at the scene before being shifted to nearby hospitals. While some sustained minor injuries, others were reported to be in critical condition. Authorities temporarily suspended train operations on both tracks to facilitate rescue and recovery efforts.
Local administration and law enforcement agencies secured the area to ensure smooth operations. Senior railway officials have reached the site and a three member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the incident.
Initial reports suggest possible track defects or technical failure. Authorities have assured strict action against those found responsible while restoration work is underway to resume train services.
