A joint Pakistan Afghanistan peace jirga is scheduled to take place in Peshawar on March 31 bringing together political leaders tribal elders religious scholars and civil society representatives from both countries to discuss ways to reduce tensions and promote regional stability.
The initiative was announced by former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary Arbab Shezad Khan and Qaumi Islahi Tehreek head Haji Sohrab Ali Khan during a joint press briefing. Organizers said the jirga aims to build trust and establish a structured framework for dialogue between Islamabad and Kabul.
Participants are expected to call for an immediate ceasefire, de escalation along the border and peaceful resolution of disputes through diplomatic engagement. A joint declaration supporting peace will be issued and shared with both governments.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened tensions due to security concerns and cross-border incidents. Officials stressed that sustained dialogue is essential for long term peace.
Meanwhile security sources claim a propaganda network linked to India and Afghanistan has been exposed for spreading anti Pakistan narratives through fake social media accounts, aiming to damage the country’s international image and fuel regional tensions.
