A woman from central China has been reunited with her long lost brother after 33 years, thanks to a childhood photograph and modern technology.
44-year old Li Lin, from Hubei province, was separated from her younger brother Li Shen during childhood after their family fell apart. Following their mother’s death from cancer and their father’s disappearance due to mental health issues, the siblings were left homeless and struggled to survive.
At ages 11 and 7, they were living in a scrapyard when a rainy night changed everything. While sleeping in the back of a truck, they were unknowingly transported to another city. There, an elderly woman offered food to Li Shen. Believing it was help, Li Lin allowed her brother to go with the woman only for him to never return.
Despite hardship, Li Lin spent over three decades searching across China, working labor-intensive jobs and distributing missing posters, relying only on an old photograph.
A breakthrough came this year when police in Jiangxi province used facial recognition technology to locate Li Shen, who had been living in Guangdong under a different name. DNA testing confirmed their relationship.
The siblings were finally reunited on March 23, breaking down in tears after 33 years apart.
