Vegetable and meat prices surge in Lahore, burdening consumers

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Prices of vegetables and meat have increased significantly in Lahore, causing concern among citizens. According to market sources, tomatoes have reached Rs200 per kg, while garlic is being sold at Rs600 per kg against the official rate of Rs550. Ginger is priced at Rs350 per kg compared to the official Rs285.

Onions, officially priced at Rs62 per kg, are being sold for Rs70–75, while green chilies have jumped to Rs180 per kg against the official Rs105.

Citizens say rising prices have made basic food items unaffordable, urging the government to take action. Shopkeepers, however, blame increased transportation costs.

Meanwhile, chicken meat is being sold at Rs600 per kg, while mutton has surged to Rs3,000–3,300 per kg in the market.
