Pakistan Announces 2.5 Hour Evening Load Shedding Nationwide

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Scheduled evening load management introduced nationwide to control rising electricity costs and stabilize the power system.

ISLAMABAD: The Power Division Pakistan has announced a nationwide schedule of controlled load shedding during evening peak hours as part of efforts to manage rising electricity demand and prevent a proposed tariff increase.

According to a spokesperson for the Power Division, electricity will be suspended for approximately 2.5 hours daily between 5:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., the period identified as peak consumption hours across residential and commercial sectors.

The decision is aimed at easing pressure on the national grid during high-demand hours and avoiding an estimated increase of around Rs.3 per unit in electricity tariffs. Officials said the move is part of a broader load management strategy designed to maintain system stability while minimizing financial strain on consumers.

Authorities emphasized that the scheduled outages are not unexpected breakdowns but a planned measure to distribute available power more efficiently during peak hours. The spokesperson added that efforts are underway to optimize generation capacity and reduce transmission losses in the longer term.

The announcement comes amid ongoing challenges in Pakistan’s energy sector, including rising fuel costs, increased demand due to seasonal consumption patterns, and fiscal constraints impacting power generation.

Consumers have been advised to adjust usage patterns during evening hours to reduce inconvenience. The Power Division stated that the schedule will be monitored closely and adjusted if required based on demand trends and system performance.
