Complaint filed with media regulator over alleged inappropriate content in morning show sparks debate on broadcast ethics
A formal complaint has been filed with Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority against a morning show aired on 24 News HD and hosted by Fiza Ali, alleging violations of broadcast ethics and inappropriate content during family viewing hours.
Muhammad Faiq Shah, founder and chairman of the Peace and Development Party, has urged the regulator to impose strict penalties, including a ban on the host, financial fines, and disciplinary action against the channel. He also indicated that legal proceedings may be pursued if regulatory intervention is not deemed sufficient.
Shah expressed concern that such content, aired during peak family time, could negatively influence children and young audiences. He emphasized that freedom of media must be accompanied by responsibility and adherence to established broadcast codes.
Calling the incident a broader test of media culture, Shah warned against compromising content quality in pursuit of ratings. He urged PEMRA to conduct a thorough investigation and take decisive action to restore public trust, while also encouraging media organizations to reassess their editorial policies and ensure responsible programming.
