Authorities Lock Down Faizabad and Surrounding Areas Amid Security Operation
Rawalpindi/Islamabad: Security across Rawalpindi and the twin cities has been placed on a high alert amid reports of a possible second round of Iran–United States talks. Authorities have implemented extensive restrictions, including road closures and suspension of transport services, as part of precautionary security measures.
Officials have not yet issued a clear and unified operational strategy, leading to uncertainty among citizens and local businesses regarding the duration and extent of the restrictions.
In the Faizabad area within the New Town police jurisdiction, law enforcement agencies conducted operations that resulted in the closure of hotels, hostels, restaurants, and multiple shops. The sudden enforcement action disrupted routine commercial activity in the area.
The inter-provincial transport terminal at Faizabad has also been shut down, leaving passengers stranded and facing significant difficulties in continuing their journeys. Long queues and confusion were reported as transport services were halted without prior public facilitation arrangements.
Murree Road near Faizabad has been completely sealed off for traffic movement, although some adjacent commercial areas in other parts of the city remain open and operational, creating uneven business activity across different zones.
The Metro Bus service in the twin cities has also been partially suspended. According to Metro Bus officials, the segment from IJP Station to Pak Secretariat has been closed until further notice due to security directives. However, operations between Saddar and Faizabad stations remain functional, allowing limited commuter movement.
Officials further stated that the service will remain suspended in affected sections until further orders, depending on evolving security assessments.
In addition, the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi confirmed that all private, public, and goods transport will remain suspended until further notice. He added that the decision was taken in coordination with security agencies to ensure public safety during the heightened alert period.
Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema stated that citizens will be kept informed through timely updates as the situation develops and restrictions are reviewed.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as security measures remain in effect across key areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
