Chief Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Facilitation as Afghan Envoy Requests Expansion of Registration Facilities
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi held a telephone conversation with Afghanistan’s Ambassador Sardar Ahmad Khan on Tuesday, during which both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly the ongoing repatriation process of Afghan refugees and administrative coordination at border and registration facilities.
According to official details, the Afghan ambassador expressed gratitude to the provincial government for facilitating his recent visit to repatriation centers and acknowledged a noticeable improvement in arrangements and operational conditions. He also appreciated the increase in the number of NADRA mobile vans deployed for registration purposes while requesting further expansion to accommodate the growing number of applicants.
During the discussion, the Afghan envoy urged that refugees who have completed their registration process should be allowed to return in a timely manner, emphasizing smoother coordination to avoid unnecessary delays in the repatriation procedure.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that Afghan refugees are regarded as brothers and guests, and the provincial government remains committed to ensuring maximum facilitation for them. He added that authorities are working under the guidance of humanitarian considerations and continued improvement in service delivery.
Afridi further informed the Afghan ambassador that instructions had already been issued to increase the number of registration counters and NADRA mobile units, with additional expansion also under consideration to streamline processing capacity.
He said he is personally monitoring the functioning of repatriation camps on a daily basis and ensuring that facilities and services provided at these centers are being improved continuously. The chief minister reiterated that all possible steps are being taken to ensure dignity, ease, and efficiency in the repatriation process.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to address operational challenges and enhance cooperation in managing refugee-related affairs in a structured and humane manner.
