Court grants bail after investigators fail to present evidence during proceedings in Islamabad anti-terror case.
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday confirmed the bail of journalist Tayyab Gondal in a terrorism-related case after investigators failed to present sufficient evidence during the hearing.
The hearing was conducted by Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Zulqarnain, where Investigating Officer Inspector Hanif appeared before the court at approximately 11 a.m. The court questioned the officer regarding the grounds on which Tayyab Gondal had been named in the case and what evidence supported the allegations.
During proceedings, the investigating officer informed the court that Tayyab Gondal was allegedly in possession of tear gas. The statement prompted a brief light moment in the courtroom.
The presiding judge remarked that the court was already aware of the situation regarding tear gas and further inquired whether any official record or supporting documentation had been submitted in this regard.
The investigating officer responded that the record could not be presented at that time and requested additional time to submit it. The court expressed displeasure over the lack of preparedness and absence of relevant evidence.
The judge observed that the investigation had not shown meaningful progress and that no substantial material had been placed before the court to justify continued detention.
Following arguments and the failure of the prosecution to present supporting evidence, the court ordered the confirmation of bail for Tayyab Gondal.
The decision marks a significant development in the case, as the court highlighted deficiencies in the investigative process and questioned the basis of the allegations brought forward.
