Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s interprovincial area near Jand and Khushal Garh Bridge narrowly escaped a major tragedy after a courageous citizen sacrificed his life while stopping a suspected suicide attacker from reaching a sensitive location.
According to initial details, a suspicious individual, believed to be a “Khwariji terrorist,” was moving through agricultural fields near the Jand and Khushal Garh Bridge area close to Kohat when he was intercepted by a local resident identified as Liaqat, a resident of Mankor village in Jand tehsil of Attock district.
Officials said Liaqat stopped the suspect and questioned his identity. During the confrontation, the suspected suicide bomber reportedly panicked and detonated himself on the spot.
As a result of the blast, Liaqat embraced martyrdom while the suspected attacker was also killed instantly.
Sources said the martyred citizen was a retired employee of Pakistan Railways and was widely respected in the local community for his courage and patriotism.
Preliminary reports suggest the attacker was allegedly attempting to reach a sensitive check post located in the interprovincial region. However, Liaqat’s timely action prevented what authorities believe could have been a devastating attack causing heavy casualties.
Residents and officials have hailed the bravery of the martyred citizen, stating that he stood like a “wall of steel” in front of the enemy and protected not only the nearby check post but also dozens of innocent lives in the surrounding area.
The incident once again highlights the ongoing security challenges in border and sensitive regions, where militants continue attempts to target civilians and security personnel. Despite these threats, local communities, law enforcement agencies, and security forces remain vigilant against such attacks.
Tributes continue to pour in for martyr Liaqat, with many calling him a national hero whose sacrifice will be remembered for years to come.
