SWABI: A high-level review meeting chaired by the Inspector General of Prisons, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rehan Gul Khattak, was held on Thursday to assess the progress of the under-construction District Jail Swabi and address key challenges affecting its completion.
The meeting brought together senior officials, including DIG Finance and Planning Hashmat Ullah, DIG Mardan Region Sahibzada Qaiser Khan, representatives from the Communication and Works Department (C&W), and Superintendent Sub Jail Swabi Ehsanuddin. Participants conducted a detailed review of construction progress, existing hurdles, and the roadmap for completing the remaining work.
During the briefing, officials presented updates on the current status of the project and highlighted the outstanding tasks required before the facility can begin operations. The review focused on ensuring that the prison infrastructure is completed in line with approved standards and timelines.
Addressing the meeting, IG Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak directed the relevant authorities to expedite the installation of a dedicated express feeder and separate electricity line for the facility. He emphasized that uninterrupted power supply is essential for activating the prison’s core operational sections and facilitating its partial operationalisation at the earliest possible stage.
The Inspector General also instructed the C&W Department to prioritize the completion of the external sewerage network and watch towers, describing them as critical components for the jail’s functionality and security. He stressed that any delay in these works could affect the overall operational readiness of the facility.
Officials were further directed to ensure that all construction activities are completed according to prescribed quality standards and within the agreed timeline. The objective, authorities said, is to make the modern District Jail Swabi fully functional as soon as possible and strengthen correctional infrastructure in the region.
The District Jail Swabi project is considered an important addition to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s prison network and is expected to improve inmate management, security arrangements, and service delivery once operational.
