Voting has officially begun in the GBA-12 Shigar constituency of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, with authorities enforcing strict security measures to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
In the early hours of Sunday, voters arrived at polling stations in large numbers, reflecting strong public engagement. Election officials confirmed that 46,594 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots across the constituency.
A total of 71 polling stations have been set up, where nine candidates are competing for the seat. Men and women were seen standing in queues, as polling continued in an orderly and calm atmosphere.
Security has been significantly tightened, with around 500 personnel from Punjab Police deployed alongside local law enforcement agencies. Sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations are under enhanced surveillance, with additional forces stationed to prevent any disruption.
Officials stated that voting is progressing smoothly and peacefully, with polling set to continue until 5 p.m., after which counting will begin.
