Kylian Mbappé celebrated his 100th appearance for France with two goals as the defending champions overcame a lengthy weather delay to defeat Iraq 3-0 and secure a place in the World Cup knockout stages.
PHILADELPHIA: Kylian Mbappé delivered another memorable performance on a landmark night, scoring twice in his 100th appearance for France as the defending champions cruised to a 3-0 victory over Iraq and booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout rounds.
The Group I clash was dramatically interrupted by severe thunderstorms in the Philadelphia area, forcing a delay of nearly two hours before the second half could begin. Despite the lengthy stoppage, France maintained their dominance and quickly regained control once play resumed.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the first half, giving France an early advantage. After the weather delay, he struck again with a clinical finish from an Ousmane Dembele assist, completing his second brace of the tournament and further strengthening his influence on France’s campaign.
Dembele also found the net himself, capping off an impressive display as France consistently threatened an Iraqi side that battled hard but struggled to contain the tournament favorites.
