Banks, PSX to Shut for Three Days as Pakistan Marks Independence Day

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Banks, financial institutions and the Pakistan Stock Exchange will remain closed from Friday, August 14, through Sunday, August 16, with operations resuming Monday.

Banks, financial institutions and the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) will remain closed for three consecutive days as Pakistan observes Independence Day alongside the regular weekend holidays.

According to a circular issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Friday, August 14, has been declared a public holiday on the occasion of Independence Day. The closure will be followed by the routine Saturday and Sunday holidays on August 15 and 16.

As a result, commercial banks, financial institutions and the stock market will suspend their regular operations throughout the three-day period.

The holiday schedule means customers who require branch-based banking services or transactions involving physical processing will need to complete them before Friday or wait until operations resume. Businesses and investors may also need to adjust their plans around the closure of financial markets.

However, digital banking services are expected to remain available during the holidays. Customers can continue using ATMs, internet banking and other eligible digital channels for routine transactions, subject to individual bank services and system availability.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange will also remain closed during the holiday period, meaning regular trading activities will not take place on Friday or over the weekend.

Normal banking and financial market operations are expected to resume on Monday, August 17.
