Sepehran Airlines flight from Mashhad to Kermanshah returned safely to Mashhad after the pilot reported an engine-related emergency shortly after takeoff.
A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 operating a flight from Mashhad to Kermanshah made an emergency return to Mashhad on Monday after a technical problem was reported shortly after takeoff, according to Iranian aviation and local airport officials.
The aircraft departed from Shahid Hashemi Nejad International Airport in Mashhad for Kermanshah at around 5:30 p.m. local time. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported an engine-related problem to air traffic control and requested to return to the airport, officials said.
The aircraft subsequently landed safely at Mashhad Airport. No injuries were reported, and passengers were safely removed from the aircraft.
According to Hassan Jafari, spokesman for Khorasan Razavi Airports, the incident involved one of the aircraft’s tires during takeoff. Initial reports described the event as a possible tire blowout, but Jafari later clarified that the outer rubber of one of the tires had separated from the wheel and that a tire explosion had not occurred.
Reports also indicated a possible connection between the technical issue and the aircraft’s engine condition. However, authorities have not yet established the exact cause of the incident. The Civil Aviation Organization is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the emergency return and determine whether the tire issue or another technical fault contributed to the event.
Following the safe landing, the affected aircraft remained at Mashhad Airport for inspection. Passengers were subsequently transported to Kermanshah on a replacement flight, according to airport officials.
The incident temporarily affected operations at Mashhad Airport, with reports initially indicating that one runway was closed following the aircraft’s return. Airport officials later said both runways were open and that flight operations were continuing normally.
