Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari announced on Friday that all Basant-related events scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled following recent security incidents and in solidarity with the families of martyrs.
Speaking to the media, Azma Bukhari said that Chief Minister Punjab had decided to cancel all planned Basant celebrations across the province. She confirmed that the major event scheduled to take place at Liberty Chowk had also been called off.
The information minister stated that the Punjab government stood firmly with the families of those who lost their lives and shared their grief during this difficult time. She said the decision reflected respect for the sacrifices made by innocent citizens and security personnel.
Azma Bukhari added that Pakistan’s enemies did not want the country’s positive image to be projected before the world, but stressed that such attempts would not succeed. She said terrorism had been confronted bravely in the past and would continue to be resisted with the same determination.
The morale of the nation remains high just as it was before she said adding that Pakistanis were not a people who succumb to fear or surrender to terrorism. She reaffirmed the government’s resolve to defeat extremist elements and maintain peace and stability across Punjab.
