ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court Islamabad on Wednesday directed jailed former prime minister Imran Khan to appear either in person or via video link at the next hearing of six cases filed against him.
Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka presided over proceedings involving five cases linked to the May 9 unrest including an attempted murder allegation concerning former minister Shah Nawaz Ranjha along with a separate case related to alleged fake receipts. Khan was represented by lawyers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry while his sisters Aleema Khan Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi attended the hearing.
Safdar argued the bail applications stating that Khan had previously secured relief and criticised authorities for failing to pursue investigations effectively. He questioned the absence of investigating officers and incomplete inquiries urging the court to issue decisions promptly. The prosecution requested additional time to prepare arguments.
The court ordered that complete records of all cases be submitted by February 24 and directed investigating officers to appear with relevant documents at the next hearing.
The cases stem from the May 9 riots following Khan’s arrest events that were later addressed in rulings by the Supreme Court. Proceedings were adjourned until February 24.
