Lahore: The inquiry report into the tragic Lahore incident where a mother and her daughter fell into an open manhole has been submitted to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. However no concrete action has been taken so far.
The inquiry committee investigated all aspects of the incident identified those responsible and recommended strict action. The report highlights negligence and misconduct by TEPA WASA the Parking Company NESPAK police, and other administrative authorities. Serious gaps in maintenance and weak inspection systems were noted particularly by TEPA and WASA.
The manhole constructed slightly above footpath level without a cover combined with poor lighting and an illegal parking stand directly contributed to the accident. The Parking Company reportedly failed to remove the unauthorized setup. Civil departments’ negligence and alleged police misconduct toward the child’s father were also noted.
Additional Chief Secretary Ahmad Raza Sarwar confirmed the report’s submission acknowledging coordination gaps and delayed reporting of the missing manhole cover. While all responsible individuals have been identified and recommendations proposed, authorities have yet to act raising public concerns over accountability and delayed response.
