ISLAMABAD: (Anwer Zeb Khan) Imran Khan was brought to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) from Adiala Jail for a scheduled follow-up examination related to his ongoing eye treatment, according to an official statement released by the hospital administration.
The 74-year-old former prime minister received the second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection, a treatment commonly used for specific retinal conditions. Before the procedure, a specially constituted medical board comprising specialists from PIMS and Al-Shifa Eye Hospital conducted a comprehensive medical evaluation.
Hospital officials said a consultant cardiologist performed echocardiography and an electrocardiogram (ECG), both of which were found to be normal. A consultant physician also examined Khan and declared him medically stable prior to the procedure.
After obtaining his consent, the injection was administered under strict monitoring protocols in the operating theater by a consultant ophthalmologist and a vitreoretinal surgeon. The process was completed as a day-care surgery.
The statement confirmed that Khan remained stable before, during and after the procedure. He was later discharged with post-care instructions and transferred back to Adiala Jail under tight security arrangements.
Separately, Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that Khan had been shifted to the hospital for the injection and returned to jail after completion of the medical procedure.
