US president says Iran spreading AI-generated images of attacks on US forces while conflict disrupts key oil shipping route.
WASHINGTON: Donald Trump on Monday accused Iran of spreading artificial-intelligence-generated disinformation about the ongoing conflict with the United States, claiming fabricated images and videos falsely show attacks on American military assets.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said Iran circulated AI-generated footage portraying the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN‑72) burning at sea. He dismissed the images as fake and insisted the carrier had not been attacked.
Trump also rejected reports that multiple US aerial refueling aircraft had been destroyed, saying the planes remain operational except for one undergoing repairs. He accused some media outlets — including The Wall Street Journal — of amplifying what he described as fabricated wartime content.
The president praised Brendan Carr for examining broadcast licenses of certain networks Trump labeled “corrupt” and “unpatriotic.”
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during a flight from Florida to Washington, D.C., Trump confirmed Washington remains in contact with Tehran but doubts progress toward negotiations.
“We’re talking to them, but I don’t think they are ready,” he said.
Trump added that US forces recently targeted Iranian drone-manufacturing facilities, though officials have not independently confirmed the strikes. He also claimed Iran’s military capabilities had been significantly weakened.
The president warned further US attacks could target Kharg Island, Iran’s primary oil export hub. Rising tensions have already disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global energy supplies.
Iranian authorities have not publicly responded to Trump’s accusations regarding AI-generated propaganda or the reported US strikes.
