Islamabad initiates tech‑driven system to ensure verified and secure public transport for commuters
ISLAMABAD: In a major move to regulate ride services and improve commuter safety in the Federal Capital, the Islamabad district administration and Islamabad Police have jointly revamped the registration process for bike taxis (بائکیا) and taxi drivers.
Under the new policy, the registration process previously handled through the district app has now been shifted to the Taxi Verification App used by Islamabad Police. Drivers and vehicles can easily upload their details to the app, which will now serve as the central database for all ride services operating in the city.
Once registered, drivers must display a QR code sticker prominently on the vehicle. Passengers can scan the QR code using the verification app to instantly confirm the driver’s credentials, a step officials say will significantly enhance safety and accountability on city roads.
Authorities have also made it mandatory for drivers to enter passenger and trip information for every ride, ensuring complete travel records. Drivers can download the app directly from the Google Play Store.
Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner has urged citizens not to travel in unregistered bikes or taxis, stressing that the initiative will help make travel fully secure for residents.
