Council of Islamic Ideology releases updated Fitr, Fidyah rates with multiple commodity-based options for Ramadan 2026
The Council of Islamic Ideology has announced this year’s official guidelines for Sadaqah-tul-Fitr and Fidyah Sawm, setting minimum contributions based on prevailing commodity prices ahead of the conclusion of Ramadan.
According to Chairman Raghib Hussain Naeemi, the minimum Sadaqah-tul-Fitr and Fidyah amount has been fixed at Rs 300 per person on the basis of wheat. However, higher recommended rates have also been issued, including Rs 1,100 for barley, Rs 1,600 for dates, and Rs 3,800 for raisins, allowing donors to contribute according to their financial capacity and preferred staple.
Naeemi emphasized that Sadaqah-tul-Fitr is obligatory for every Muslim male and female, young and old who possesses the financial means. He urged affluent individuals to avoid limiting payments to the lowest benchmark and instead contribute based on higher-value food items to maximize assistance for the needy during Eid preparations.
The council further outlined fidyah calculations for those unable to fast, estimating a full-month payment ranging from Rs 9,000 for wheat-based assessment to over Rs 160,000 depending on selected commodities. It also reiterated Islamic rulings that individuals who deliberately break a fast must either observe 60 consecutive fasts or feed 60 people as expiation.
The advisory additionally recommends that individuals outside Punjab calculate Fitr and Fidyah according to local market prices to ensure fairness and accuracy in religious obligations.
