A scene featuring Pakistani actors Feroze Khan and Sahar Hashmi from the drama serial Shaidai has triggered intense debate on social media, with viewers divided over whether Pakistani television dramas are moving away from traditional cultural values.
The controversy erupted after episode 9 of Shaidai, a production of 7th Sky Entertainment, showed Miraal — played by Sahar Hashmi — hugging Ali, portrayed by Feroze Khan, in an office setting. The clip quickly went viral online and drew strong reactions from audiences.
Feroze Khan is widely known for hit dramas including Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3, Ishqiya, Habs, Gul-e-Rana and Khaani. Meanwhile, Sahar Hashmi gained recognition through performances in Zulm and Mann Mast Malang, the latter becoming one of the most talked-about Pakistani dramas online.
Viewers criticizing the scene argued that such physical interaction does not align with the portrayal of a conservative middle-class girl as depicted in the storyline. Many users questioned why increasingly bold scenes are becoming common in mainstream television content.
One social media user wrote, “Since when did we start hugging in Pakistani dramas? What’s next?” Another commented, “Pakistani dramas were known for decency and meaningful stories. These scenes do not represent our society.”
Some viewers also claimed that local drama makers are gradually adopting storytelling styles inspired by Turkish and international productions, expressing concerns that more intimate scenes may become normalized on television in the future.
However, others defended the actors and the production, saying the reaction was exaggerated and that television content is evolving with changing audience preferences. Supporters argued that brief emotional scenes should not overshadow the overall storyline and performances.
Despite the backlash, the chemistry between Feroze Khan and Sahar Hashmi in Shaidai continues to receive praise from many fans, helping the drama gain strong traction online. The viral debate has also significantly increased public interest in the serial, making the controversial scene one of the most discussed moments from Pakistani television this week.
