ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan Ina Lepel met with Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik in Islamabad on Friday to discuss ongoing and future collaboration on climate action institutional coordination, and data driven environmental governance.
During the meeting Ambassador Lepel thanked the Ministry of Climate Change for its continued support in advancing climate initiatives and coordinating effectively with provincial governments. She highlighted the extensive cooperation between Germany and Pakistan in the environmental sector, particularly through the German development agency GIZ covering climate adaptation emission control green growth institutional capacity building, and pilot projects to strengthen Pakistan’s climate response framework.
A major focus of discussions was the proposed CISTA (Integrated Climate Information Services Value Chains for Transformative Climate Action) project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment.The initiative aims to enhance climate data management, improve inter agency coordination, and support evidence based policymaking at federal and provincial levels.
Dr. Malik welcomed Germany’s continued partnership, emphasizing the importance of reliable data integration and suggesting a joint technical workshop for effective project implementation. Both sides also explored expanding bilateral engagement through joint research, academic exchanges, and strengthened mechanisms for institutional coordination and data sharing. The meeting reflects Pakistan Germany efforts to promote sustainable development, resilience, and innovation driven climate governance.
