Petition alleges the former prime minister is being held in unlawful solitary confinement, denied family access for months, and suffering serious health deterioration.
ISLAMABAD: The sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Aleema Khan, has filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court, alleging that the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder is being held in unlawful solitary confinement at Adiala Jail.
The petition, submitted through Barrister Salman Safdar, names the jail superintendent, the inspector general of prisons, the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau, the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency, and the executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences as respondents.
According to the petition, a meeting between Imran Khan and his legal counsel on April 8 revealed that he was allegedly confined to isolation for 22 hours each day, while his wife, Bushra Bibi, was reportedly kept in isolation around the clock.
The filing further claims that no family member or PTI representative has been permitted to meet Imran Khan during the past six months. Aleema Khan argues that no court ruling authorizes solitary confinement as part of his sentence, describing the detention conditions as unlawful and inhumane.
The petition also states that Imran Khan informed his lawyer that his eyesight had deteriorated by approximately 85 percent. It contends that prolonged solitary confinement is among the harshest forms of imprisonment and was never included in the punishment imposed by the courts.
