Fourth MHPSS Coordination Meeting in Peshawar focuses on expanding mental health services, improving coordination, and strengthening community-based psychosocial support across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving mental health services after the Fourth Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Coordination Meeting was held at Serena Hotel in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Khaliq Ur Rehman.
The meeting brought together senior officials from the Health Department, development partners, United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders working in the fields of mental health and psychosocial support.
Participants reviewed the progress of ongoing MHPSS programs across the province, evaluating project performance, identifying operational challenges, and discussing future priorities. The session emphasized strengthening mental health services within the primary healthcare system, expanding community-based psychosocial support, and enhancing coordination among partner organizations.
Addressing the gathering, Health Minister Khaliq Ur Rehman said mental health is a fundamental component of overall healthcare and requires greater attention in today’s rapidly changing environment. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to providing accessible, timely, and high-quality mental health services, adding that close collaboration with development partners and relevant institutions would continue to achieve this objective.
The minister also appreciated the contributions of participating organizations, stating that coordinated planning, effective communication, and strong partnerships are essential to ensuring better mental health and psychosocial support services for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly vulnerable and conflict-affected communities.
