Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has launched a major initiative aimed at strengthening the protection of women and children by activating Women Protection Centers and Gender-Based Women and Child Protection Desks across the Dera region.
The initiative was introduced under the special directives of Zulfiqar Hameed and Ghulam Mubashir Mekan. The newly established facilities are now operational at the Regional Police Office as well as all District Police Officer offices and Police Facilitation Centers in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Upper South Waziristan and Lower South Waziristan.
According to police officials, trained female police personnel will remain available at these centers around the clock to register complaints, provide legal assistance, guide victims, and ensure immediate response in sensitive cases. Authorities said the initiative’s primary goal is to offer women a secure, dignified, and confidential environment where they can seek help without fear.
The Women Protection Desks will allow women to directly or online register complaints related to harassment, domestic violence, inheritance disputes, family conflicts, fraud, and other legal matters concerning women and children. Police officials added that emergency protection and rapid response mechanisms would also be available for women facing threats to life or property.
The newly activated centers will also support women during ongoing investigations by offering legal guidance, updates on case progress, and a safer process for complainants. Officials emphasized that women who do not wish to reveal their identities can keep their complaints completely confidential.
As part of the initiative, awareness campaigns will also be conducted in schools, colleges, universities, and community forums to educate women about their legal and constitutional rights. Police authorities believe the program will help reduce harassment, violence, and exploitation while improving trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies.
Officials further stated that the initiative aims to ensure access to justice for women, especially in cases where legal action faces delays or procedural hurdles. The police department said all complaints received through official social media platforms and helplines would be handled with urgency and complete privacy.
The Regional Police Office in Dera Ismail Khan has also shared dedicated contact numbers, email addresses, and official social media platforms to facilitate women seeking assistance across the region.
