Nicole Kidman has revealed how she and Morgan Freeman meticulously prepare their dialogue before filming key scenes in ‘Lioness’ Season 3.
Nicole Kidman has offered fans a rare glimpse into the demanding preparation required to bring the complex dialogue of Lioness to life, revealing how she works with co-star Morgan Freeman before filming key scenes.
In the Taylor Sheridan-created CIA thriller, Kidman plays Kaitlyn Meade, while Freeman portrays Edwin Mullins. The series also stars Zoe Saldaña, Jill Wagner and Laysla De Oliveira.
Speaking at Paramount+’s Icons of Taylor Sheridan’s Universe event, Kidman explained that preparation continues even when the cameras are turned off. She said the cast must have a complete understanding of every line before delivering it on screen.
According to Kidman, the scripts are particularly dense, making detailed preparation essential for each episode. The challenge, she explained, is not simply memorizing dialogue but making highly technical conversations sound natural and effortless.
Kidman said the cast works to ensure that the words feel as though they are part of an ordinary conversation, despite the fact that the material is often far removed from everyday speech.
She highlighted her collaboration with Michael Kelly and Freeman, saying the three actors regularly work together to understand the material. Before filming important scenes, Kidman and Freeman break down their dialogue and examine the meaning of specific words and phrases.
That process helps the actors remain completely aligned on what their characters are discussing, something Kidman considers particularly important given the layered nature of Lioness and its intelligence-focused storyline.
The preparation also reflects the broader demands of Sheridan’s fast-paced writing, where seemingly small details in dialogue can carry significant meaning. For Kidman and her co-stars, understanding those details appears to be an important part of making the performances convincing.
Season 3 of Lioness premiered on Paramount+ on Aug. 2, with new episodes released weekly on Sundays. Kidman’s comments provide viewers with a closer look at the work behind the series’ high-stakes conversations and underscore the level of preparation required before those scenes reach the screen.
