No M-Tag, No Entry: Islamabad Steps Up Enforcement at City Checkpoints

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

ISLAMABAD — Authorities in Pakistan’s federal capital have intensified enforcement against vehicles operating without mandatory M-Tags, continuing inspections at multiple checkpoints across the city after the registration deadline expired.

Officials said M-Tag readers are fully functional at major entry and exit points, enabling enforcement teams to identify non-compliant vehicles in real time. Vehicles found without valid M-Tags are being stopped as part of the ongoing drive, according to the Excise and Taxation Department.

Director General Excise Bilal Azam said that facilities for M-Tag issuance have been expanded to ease public inconvenience. M-Tag installation services are currently available at 17 designated booths across Islamabad. So far, 166,888 vehicles have been issued M-Tags, while 3,130 vehicles were registered in the last 24 hours alone.

Bilal Azam added that 24-hour services are being provided at the M-Tag centers at 26 Number Chungi and 18 Mile. Additional counters at Kachnar Park and F-9 Park remain open until midnight to accommodate motorists.

Authorities warned that strict action, including fines and legal proceedings, will be taken against violators, stressing that no exemptions will be granted. The operation is being conducted in coordination with the Safe City Authority, traffic police, and district administration.

Officials said the M-Tag system aims to modernise traffic management, improve toll collection, and reduce congestion, urging citizens to comply promptly to avoid penalties.
