ISLAMABAD: The Oil Tankers Contractors Association has warned of significant disruptions in petroleum supply in Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to ongoing traffic restrictions and movement curbs imposed in connection with the arrival of foreign delegations.
In a statement, the association said that road closures and strict traffic management measures in the federal capital have severely affected the movement of oil tankers, leading to delays in fuel transportation across key areas.
According to the association, the restriction on the entry of commercial vehicles into Islamabad has become a major obstacle in maintaining a smooth petroleum supply chain. Oil tankers have reportedly been temporarily halted from entering the city, resulting in supply bottlenecks over the past two to three days.
Officials noted that in several locations, tankers are not being granted entry, further compounding the issue. Similar restrictions have also impacted Rawalpindi, where limited access has disrupted the flow of petroleum products to local depots and fuel stations.
The association highlighted that fuel supply vehicles designated for airports, including those serving Islamabad and Peshawar, are currently stranded at depots due to access limitations. This has raised concerns about potential disruptions to aviation fuel supply if the situation persists.
In addition to refined fuel distribution, the transportation of crude oil has also been affected. The association reported a noticeable decline in both the delivery and receipt of oil supplies, indicating broader logistical challenges within the supply chain.
The ongoing disruptions have sparked fears of possible fuel shortages in the twin cities if immediate measures are not taken to restore tanker movement. Industry stakeholders warn that prolonged delays could impact not only daily commuters but also critical sectors reliant on uninterrupted fuel availability.
The Oil Tankers Contractors Association has urged the Commissioner Islamabad and other relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the situation. It has called for granting unrestricted or prioritized entry to oil tankers to ensure the restoration of normal supply operations.
Authorities have yet to issue an official response, but the situation remains under close observation as logistical challenges continue amid heightened security arrangements in the capital.
