Pakistan Airfare Soars Amid Skyrocketing Jet Fuel Prices

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Passengers brace for higher travel expenses as fuel surcharges hit domestic and international flights.

KARACHI: Air travel in Pakistan has become markedly more expensive as airlines pass on rising jet fuel costs to passengers. Fuel prices have surged from Rs.176 per liter to Rs.417 per liter, prompting carriers to increase ticket prices through fuel surcharges ranging from $10 to $100, depending on the route.

Aviation officials said while base fares remain largely unchanged, the added fuel adjustment charges have pushed overall ticket costs higher. Industry experts warn fares could rise by as much as 100% if jet fuel prices continue their upward trajectory.

National carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has revised surcharges across domestic and international routes. Domestic flights now carry an additional $10, while international fares see increases of up to $100 for Canada-bound passengers, $75 for the United Kingdom, and $50 for Saudi Arabia and Gulf destinations.

Private airlines have introduced surcharges between $15 and $150, citing rising fuel costs and the closure of certain Gulf airspaces as key factors driving fare hikes.

Travelers are expected to bear the brunt of these increases in the coming weeks, with international routes likely to see the steepest impact. Passenger groups have expressed concern over the financial strain, urging authorities to monitor and regulate the escalating costs.

The aviation sector warns that without stabilization in fuel prices, ticket rates could continue climbing, making air travel increasingly unaffordable for many Pakistanis.
