Hotel guests given extended checkout deadline as authorities requisition property for official use
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Marriott Hotel has been requisitioned by the Government of Pakistan for an undisclosed official event, forcing guests to vacate the premises on short notice, according to a formal notice issued by hotel management.
The notification, dated April 19, 2026, informed guests that the government takeover would take effect at 3:00 PM on Sunday. As a result, visitors were instructed to check out by the same time, with hotel management extending the usual checkout deadline from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM to accommodate the abrupt directive.
The letter, signed by General Manager James Robert Wilson, expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and clarified that the action was taken under direct government instructions. Management acknowledged the disruption to guests’ plans and assured full cooperation in assisting them with alternative accommodation arrangements across Islamabad.
Hotel officials stated that their front office and sales teams remain available to support affected guests during the transition. While the nature of the government event remains undisclosed, the urgency of the requisition suggests a high-level or sensitive engagement.
The development underscores the authority of the government to requisition private facilities during critical situations, though it has left several guests scrambling to adjust travel plans at the last minute.
