Pakistan has strongly rejected a statement made by the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, regarding Pakistan’s missile program.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan, Tahir Andrabi, Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are purely defensive in nature and are aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty. He emphasized that Pakistan’s missile program is intended to maintain peace and stability in the region and is not part of any aggressive agenda.
He further stated that Pakistan’s missile range is well below intercontinental levels and is based on the principle of credible minimum deterrence. The spokesperson also highlighted that India’s long-range missile capabilities, exceeding 12,000 km, are a matter of greater regional concern.
Pakistan reiterated its desire for relations with the United States based on mutual respect, non-discrimination, and facts, stressing the need for a balanced and responsible approach to ensure peace and stability in South Asia.
Earlier, during a U.S. Senate hearing, Tulsi Gabbard had suggested that Pakistan’s long-range missile program could potentially include intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.
