Field Marshal Asim Munir says the strategic agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye marks a historic step in defence cooperation and strengthens Pakistan’s international role.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s newly signed strategic mutual defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye has been described as a major milestone in the country’s diplomatic and defence engagement, with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir highlighting its potential to strengthen Pakistan’s international leadership role.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, said the agreement with the two “brotherly countries” represents a significant achievement in Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and marks a historic step toward closer international defence and security cooperation.
The agreement brings Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye closer within a strategic framework aimed at enhancing mutual defence cooperation. Its significance extends beyond bilateral military ties, reflecting the three countries’ growing emphasis on security coordination and strategic partnerships.
According to Asim Munir, the development has further reinforced Pakistan’s position as an important player in regional and international security affairs. The agreement also underscores Islamabad’s expanding defence diplomacy and its efforts to build stronger partnerships with key countries.
The Army chief also linked the development to Pakistan’s growing defence-industrial profile, saying the agreement has strengthened the country’s leadership role as well as its prospects in defence exports.
Pakistan has increasingly sought to expand its defence cooperation and promote its indigenous defence capabilities internationally. Closer strategic partnerships can provide opportunities for joint training, defence production, technology cooperation and broader military engagement, depending on the implementation mechanisms agreed by the participating countries.
The pact with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye therefore carries significance not only for security cooperation but also for Pakistan’s broader diplomatic and defence ambitions.
