Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan is closely monitoring the regional situation following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and is working to ease tensions through diplomacy. Briefing ambassadors in Islamabad, Dar described the situation as fragile and extremely delicate stressing the need for restraint and dialogue.
He expressed concern over violations of international law and diplomatic norms particularly the targeting of state leadership calling such actions deeply troubling and contrary to established conventions. Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent stance that all countries must adhere to the principles of the UN Charter respect sovereignty territorial integrity and international humanitarian law.
The foreign minister revealed that he recently spoke with Iran’s Foreign Minister, urging restraint and dialogue. While acknowledging Iran’s right to self-defence, he regretted and condemned strikes affecting Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia the UAE Qatar Kuwait Bahrain Jordan and Oman.
Dar also confirmed the death of one Pakistani national in the UAE. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace including efforts in Gaza and Afghanistan, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only viable path to prevent further escalation in an already volatile region.
