Petrol levy reduced sharply while diesel levy increased as government adjusts fuel taxes after meeting annual revenue goals.
ISLAMABAD: The government has made a major adjustment to petroleum levy rates on petrol and diesel, reducing the burden on petrol consumers while increasing charges on high-speed diesel.
According to sources in the Ministry of Petroleum, the petroleum levy on petrol has been cut by Rs40.49 per litre. Following the revision, the levy on petrol has dropped from Rs106.74 to Rs66.25 per litre.
Meanwhile, the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs19.71 per litre. The diesel levy has now risen from Rs53.26 to Rs72.97 per litre.
Officials said the latest adjustment has brought the combined average petroleum levy on petrol and diesel below Rs80 per litre. The total levy collected on both petroleum products now stands at Rs139.22 per litre.
Sources in the Ministry of Petroleum stated that the revision was made after the government achieved its targeted revenue collection for the current fiscal year.
