The revised scheme extends weekly petrol discounts to motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws and rickshaws while maintaining existing relief for vehicles up to 800cc.
LONDON: The Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme is being implemented across Pakistan, offering petrol at a discounted rate of Rs100 per litre under the government’s relief programme, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved an additional facility for motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws and rickshaws following feedback received from across the country on the scheme.
Under the revised arrangement, motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws and rickshaws that purchase less than five litres of petrol will also be eligible for a discount of up to Rs500 on a single token each week.
One token will be issued every week, with a total of four tokens available during a month, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The existing relief mechanism for vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc will continue. Owners of eligible vehicles will receive a discount of Rs100 per litre on 10 litres of petrol every 10 days.
Under this arrangement, three tokens for 10 litres of petrol will continue to be issued each month.
The prime minister had earlier announced that registration messages for people eligible to receive relief under the scheme would be provided free of charge.
He had also directed that motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws that are up to 20 years old be included in the Fuel Relief Scheme. Implementation of the directive has begun, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
All motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered after Jan. 1, 2006, are now eligible to register for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Shehbaz is personally monitoring the scheme and has directed authorities to expand the number of beneficiaries.
The prime minister has also instructed relevant authorities to ensure that petrol discounts are provided to beneficiaries in a dignified, convenient and uninterrupted manner.
