PM Shehbaz Sharif directs Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to negotiate with Karachi-based oil refineries and pursue an immediate reduction in locally produced diesel prices.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to travel to Karachi immediately and negotiate with oil refineries over a possible reduction in diesel prices, with the government seeking to provide prompt relief to consumers.
The directive came during a meeting between the prime minister and the petroleum minister in Islamabad. Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Climate Change Minister Dr. Musadik Masood Malik and National Assembly member Hamza Shehbaz also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Shehbaz instructed Ali Pervaiz Malik to reach Karachi without delay and hold discussions with local oil refineries regarding the price of domestically produced diesel.
The prime minister emphasized that a significant portion of the country’s diesel supply is produced by local refineries. He directed the petroleum minister to personally engage with refinery representatives and complete the negotiations as quickly as possible.
Shehbaz said the government should make every possible effort to ensure that the benefit of any reduction in locally produced diesel prices reaches the public without delay.
The move comes as fuel prices remain a key issue for households, businesses and the transportation sector, where diesel costs can have a direct effect on operating expenses and the prices of goods and services.
