Government says OGRA is expected to announce a major reduction in diesel prices following talks with oil refineries
The federal government is expecting a significant reduction in diesel prices, with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik saying the price could fall by Rs30 to Rs32 per litre, offering potential relief to farmers and transporters.
Speaking alongside Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Malik said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed authorities to negotiate with oil refineries to provide maximum relief to the public.
Tarar said OGRA is expected to announce a reduction in diesel prices on Wednesday, adding that the government is focused on providing relief despite rising international oil prices caused by the ongoing conflict in the region.
“Diesel price reduction will provide relief to farmers and transporters,” Tarar said, adding that further good news could reach the public in the coming days.
Malik said the government fully understands the difficulties being faced by the public and has taken measures, including targeted subsidies, to provide relief.
He said two to three meetings had been held with oil refinery representatives on the prime minister’s instructions. According to Malik, the refineries have assured the government of a significant reduction in diesel prices.
He also noted that crude oil prices have risen in the international market and that even Russia, a major diesel-producing country, is facing difficulties.
The ministers expressed confidence that the difficult period would eventually end, saying the government was continuing efforts to address public concerns and ease economic pressure.
