Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure the supply of food items to Gulf countries while safeguarding their food security needs, according to officials.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting held in Lahore, where the prime minister reviewed the country’s food situation and the potential for exporting surplus commodities in light of the changing regional environment.
During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on the current stocks and production of food items in Pakistan. The briefing highlighted that the country has sufficient reserves of essential food products and there is no shortage of key commodities. Authorities also noted that Pakistan has significant export potential in agricultural products, meat, poultry, dairy, and seafood.
The prime minister directed relevant departments to closely monitor the supply and demand of food items to ensure domestic needs are fully met. He said that disruptions in global supply chains have increased opportunities for Pakistani products in international markets, particularly in Gulf countries.
Shehbaz Sharif also instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive strategy to enhance food exports while maintaining high quality standards. He asked the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to take necessary measures to facilitate shipments.
A special committee will review the situation daily, while Pakistani ambassadors and trade officers in Gulf countries have been directed to remain proactive in expanding export opportunities.
