The government has made SMS registration for the Prime Minister’s Fuel Subsidy Scheme free for eligible vehicle owners across Pakistan.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that the SMS registration message for the petroleum subsidy scheme be made completely free, providing an additional facility to people seeking fuel relief.
Under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Subsidy Scheme, fuel subsidies are being provided to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
The relief scheme is being implemented across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Eligible applicants can register for the scheme by sending an SMS to 9771. The registration message must begin with “REG,” followed by a space, the applicant’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number, the vehicle’s number plate, the first letter of the province where the vehicle is registered, and the vehicle’s registration date.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the registration SMS to 9771 is now completely free following the prime minister’s directive.
The initiative is aimed at providing fuel-related relief to people belonging to low- and middle-income groups through subsidies for eligible vehicles.

Applicants seeking registration are required to provide the specified information in the prescribed SMS format. The scheme covers eligible motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
The facility has been extended across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, as part of the government’s fuel relief measures.
