PM Shehbaz Sharif directs NDMA to strengthen flood relief efforts and coordination with provincial disaster management authorities amid monsoon rains.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to use all available resources to provide relief and assistance to people affected by flooding as the country continues to face the impact of monsoon rains.
The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik, who briefed him on the prevailing weather conditions and the flood situation across the country, particularly in areas affected by the ongoing monsoon spell.
Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik also updated the prime minister on relief operations being carried out in flood-affected areas and measures being taken for the rehabilitation of affected communities.
Shehbaz directed the NDMA to maintain effective coordination with relevant provincial institutions and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure a coordinated and timely response to emergencies.
The prime minister also appreciated the use of artificial intelligence and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operation Centre, emphasizing the importance of technology-driven disaster monitoring and response mechanisms.
According to the NDMA chairman, relief operations in flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will continue with the cooperation of the federal government.
