The Pakistani premier was formally welcomed at the Great Hall of the People, where he received a guard of honour alongside Premier Li. The meeting underscored the continued strategic partnership between the two countries as both governments explored ways to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir accompanied the prime minister during the visit, along with senior cabinet members including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja.
During delegation-level talks, both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation projects and attended a ceremony marking the exchange of memorandums of understanding and agreements between Pakistan and China. Officials described the discussions as focused on enhancing economic connectivity, investment opportunities and long-term strategic coordination.
Addressing the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked the Chinese leadership for its warm hospitality and praised China’s rapid development and modernization. He said every visit to China revealed “new construction and development” across the country, reflecting Beijing’s growing economic strength.
The prime minister also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Islamabad and Beijing, saying China had consistently supported Pakistan during difficult periods and regional crises. He congratulated China on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and described the partnership as one built on mutual trust and support.
Referring to the broader regional situation, Shehbaz Sharif expressed hope for lasting peace amid ongoing global tensions. He thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for backing Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts toward a ceasefire and said Islamabad supported China’s four-point peace initiative.
The premier also pointed to developments in the Gulf region, stating that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had played a significant role in facilitating communication between Iran and the United States. According to Sharif, diplomatic efforts were moving in a positive direction.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, saying Beijing was prepared to continue close coordination with Islamabad on issues of mutual interest.
As part of the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square and meet executives of leading Chinese companies to discuss investment opportunities and economic cooperation.
The visit will also include ceremonies commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between the two neighboring allies.
