Peshawar: Veteran Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, while addressing a press conference on Thursday, announced his decision to step away from active parliamentary politics, stressing that his withdrawal does not mean distancing himself from politics or ideology.
Bilour clarified that he will remain associated with the ANP till his last breath, emphasizing that his bond with the party is not dependent on holding office or contesting elections. “My relationship with the ANP is ideological, not positional,” he said.
Referring to his political roots, Bilour stated that he has always been a follower of Bacha Khan and Wali Khan and will continue to uphold their philosophy throughout his life. He highlighted that his political journey has been guided by principles of peace, non-violence, dialogue, and democratic struggle.
Observers noted that while political differences with Bilour’s views may exist, his consistency, ideological commitment, and long-standing association with democratic politics command respect across party lines.
The press conference served as a reminder that politics is not merely about parliamentary seats but about standing firm with one’s beliefs and values. Many political workers and analysts paid tribute to Bilour for his decades-long contribution to democratic traditions and principled politics in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
