LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 around all Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bases and commercial airports across the province for a period of 30 days in an effort to strengthen flight safety measures and prevent activities considered hazardous to air operations.
According to an official spokesperson on Thursday, the restrictions prohibit pigeon flying, the use of laser lights, and the dumping of sacrificial meat and animal waste within a 13-kilometre radius of airports and PAF installations throughout Punjab.
Officials said the orders were issued under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898, and would remain applicable to all commercial airports as well as military air bases operating in the province.
Authorities warned that such activities could create serious risks for aircraft operations, particularly during takeoff and landing phases. Bird activity caused by exposed meat and animal waste remains one of the major aviation hazards, increasing the likelihood of bird strikes that can endanger passengers, crew members and aircraft safety.
The government also expressed concern over laser lights being directed into the sky, saying they can distract pilots and interfere with visibility during critical flight operations. Pigeon flying near air corridors was also described as a threat due to the increased movement of birds around active airspace.
The Punjab government has directed district administrations, municipal bodies and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the restrictions. Authorities have additionally ordered enhanced cleanliness measures in areas surrounding airports and air force facilities to minimize potential safety hazards.
The move comes as aviation authorities across Pakistan continue to tighten operational safety protocols amid increasing air traffic and heightened security vigilance around strategic installations.
