Enforcement teams shut down production unit, impose fines and register case as part of ongoing food safety drive
Bahawalnagar: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) conducted a series of enforcement operations in Bahawalnagar, taking decisive action against food adulteration and hygiene violations, officials said on Monday.
According to a PFA spokesperson, approximately 400 kilograms of adulterated gram flour (besan) were seized and destroyed during a raid on a grinding unit. The production facility was immediately shut down, and a formal First Information Report (FIR) was registered against those responsible.
The crackdown was carried out under the supervision of the Director Operations South Zone, targeting units involved in the preparation and sale of substandard food products. Authorities said the unit had been producing adulterated and unsafe gram flour, posing a serious risk to public health.
In separate actions, a spice grinding unit and a dairy manufacturing facility were fined a total of Rs125,000 for failing to comply with food safety and hygiene regulations. Officials cited multiple violations, including poor sanitation and failure to meet prescribed quality standards.
The PFA reiterated its commitment to ensuring food safety across Punjab, stating that its teams remain active around the clock to monitor and improve food quality.
Director General PFA, Syed Musa Raza, emphasized that any attempt to compromise public health would be dealt with strictly. “We will not allow anyone to play with the health of citizens and will continue our actions without discrimination,” he said.
