Election Commission receives a request seeking certified records of Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar’s nomination papers and asset declarations amid ongoing legal and political scrutiny.
A fresh legal challenge has intensified pressure on Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar after a request was filed with the Election Commission seeking detailed records of his declared assets and nomination documents.
The application, submitted by advocate Mian Asif Mahmood, asks the Election Commission to provide certified copies of Chadhar’s nomination papers and asset declarations. The move comes in the wake of a public controversy involving actress Momina Iqbal, which has drawn significant attention in recent weeks.
According to the petitioner, a separate disqualification request against the lawmaker has already been filed before the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. The application argues that reviewing the electoral record is necessary to determine whether the legislator continues to meet legal and constitutional requirements for holding office.
The request further cites allegations that the Punjab Assembly member gifted expensive vehicles, valuable presents and property to a woman. The petitioner maintains that examining the source of income and financial transparency of an elected representative is a matter of public importance.
The application urges authorities to provide records of all past and present assets belonging to Chadhar, his spouse and dependent family members. It emphasizes that elected representatives are legally required to disclose their assets and liabilities.
The latest development follows a complaint reportedly filed by actress Momina Iqbal with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, alleging harassment by the lawmaker. Authorities are said to be investigating the matter, while no final findings have yet been announced.
