Hollywood star Tom Cruise has revealed what he and Taylor Swift were discussing during their viral appearance at a Kansas City Chiefs game, saying the pop superstar was actually teaching him about football.
Cruise and Swift were seen having an animated conversation in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 14 as the Chiefs faced the Denver Broncos. The exchange quickly attracted attention online, with fans speculating about what the two stars were discussing.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Cruise was asked about the widely shared moment.
“She was schooling me on football. For real,” Cruise said, explaining that Swift was discussing the sport with him. He also praised her intelligence, describing her as a “genius” and saying she now knows the game well.
Cruise also spoke warmly about Swift and her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, describing them as a “beautiful couple” and saying they were “magical in their own right.”
The actor said the Chiefs game was particularly memorable because he had not attended a football game since before the COVID-19 pandemic. He said spending time with Swift, Kelce and others in the suite was an enjoyable experience.
Cruise also recalled that Swift knew little about football when she first met Kelce. He said Kelce had been patient while she learned about the sport, adding that Swift now understands the game and knows the plays.
The conversation at Arrowhead came during the Chiefs’ 31-10 victory over the Denver Broncos. Swift attended the game to support Kelce, marking their first Chiefs home game together since their July wedding.
Cruise was also among the guests at Swift and Kelce’s wedding in New York in July, according to entertainment reports.
While cameras captured the pair talking extensively during the game, the exact details of their earlier on-field conversation had remained a subject of online speculation. A professional lip reader subsequently offered an interpretation of parts of the exchange, but acknowledged that some words were unclear, meaning the interpretation could not independently establish the full conversation.
Cruise’s comments on Fallon have now provided a direct explanation from one of the people involved: at least part of the conversation was about football, with Swift sharing her knowledge of the game.
